A neighborhood watch is a
community based group of residents or businesses working
together to reduce crime and promote awareness. Creating
neighborhood watch groups shares responsibility and
creates ownership of an area.
Neighborhood watch groups in
cooperation with police and city leaders, act as the
front lines toward reducing crime and fear often
associated with it. The
Saginaw Police Department
works
with groups on an individual basis as well as a
scheduled monthly meeting. At each monthly meeting,
residents are supported by city leaders as well as
representatives from Saginaw’s Police and
Fire
Departments and SCENIC.
Saginaw has a well planned
Community Policing program in place. Some of the
neighborhood watch areas have an assigned police officer
to their area. This form of policing allows a direct and
confidential conduit between citizens and the police.
Getting involved
Forming a neighborhood watch
group is a simple approach to improving safety of your
neighborhood. All of the required information to start a
new neighborhood watch is available free from the
Saginaw Police Department. Sergeant Terry Carpenter is
the Community Policing Supervisor and certifies each new
group in the city. If you would like more information on
starting your own watch group, Sergeant Carpenter can be
